Bye-bye 2010, Hello 2011

2010 is going to end soon. This year has proved to be good in most ways. Had I achieve all my resolution? Sad to say that, I failed a couple of the goals. Nevertheless, it's still a fruitful year.

Fruitful year in term of the business picking up, and we don't have any more unpaid leave, but looking forward it seems like the economy is going south again. But then I will leave this problem to next year to worry about.

With year 2011 around the corner, I have a guess that this will be a turning point in my life. Embarking into a whole new journey where most of the people will eventually go as they grow older. However, nothing is confirmed yet so I will sleep on it and take the matters into hand when it really happens.

What had I learn in 2010? I guess as we grow older, it seems we are starting to have better control over ourselves. Compare to last year, the most significant growth that I see within myself is that I do not let other people control my emotions. I learn to take a step back when I'm pushed into a corner or in the verge of volcano eruption, and analyze or at least talk with a level headed voice. I learnt that when you do so, you started to see the bigger picture and able to have constructive discussion.

Greatest achievement for 2010 will be the business cum personal trip to Germany, which is like a dream came true for me. To be able to go to a country which needs 14 hrs of flight and experience a whole new culture, language, building, weather is like an eye opener for me. This trip had indeed been the most memorable trip up to now in my life.

This year had not been smooth sailing. Along the year there's up and down just like any other years. It's because of the downside that we appreciated the upturn. I realized that life is indeed numbered. I saw a few of cases this year where young children, as young as 10 years old, passed away. I saw an adult fighting for his life, so that he may live longer to see with his own eyes, his daughter grows from a girl to a young lady, to witness her graduation, her marriage, the birth of his grandchildren, and to grow old with his partner. I hope sincerely with my heart that he will be able to pull through this and to make all these into reality.

With all these happenings, it re-enforces my motto in life, which is to live life to the fullest. Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, and today is a gift. Treat each day as your last, and you will have less or hopefully no regrets in life.

So for year 2011, I'm going to play hard and fulfill my dreams instead of thinking I have 30-40 years of time to spend. Oh ya, and learn to enjoy God more, because without Him, I doubt my life is what it is now. Be thankful that you are still breathing, still surrounded by loved ones, and still has the ability to support yourself.

DD Farewell Lunch @ Taipei 101

One of my colleague and blogger friend is actually leaving the company that we worked for during end of November. Kinda sad that many friends are leaving and starting the new chapter elsewhere. Nevertheless, all the best for their future undertakings.

Some of the drinks we ordered.

And the following are the food that we ordered that day.

Dresden Part 1

Too many pictures for Dresden as we walked along Elbe Riverside since all the historical buildings are centerised there.

Since there are too many photos available, I will divide it into two parts. The following photos are not in sequence order.

1. Eating a super delicious ice cream while posing for a monument besides Elbe River. The scenery besides the river is superb. Look at the clear sky, it's sunshine, yet cold with temperature around 15 C.

2. The ice cream I'm eating is Movenpick, only 1EURO. Super delicious. I wonder when Kuching can have this ice cream. The yummiest among all the ice cream that I had tried in Germany.

3. At the door of Albertinum museum.

4. Another side of Albertinum museum. Albertinum is a famous fine art museum in Dresden, Germany.

5. Some old historical building which I can't recall the name already. There is just too many of such buildings along the shore of Elbe River.

6. Inside one museum showing Jeff Wall's pieces.

7. The old building showcasting Jeff Wall pieces.

8. Another old building which I can't recall what is the name. If my memory didn't failed me, someone told me it's a big library.

9. The Church of Our Lady, Frauenkirche. The black small piece of wall is the original church which was destroyed during to WW2. The church behind was rebuilt using the original stones (which is blacken due to war) together with original pieces.

10.Dresden is famous for this type of wooden crafted toys. It's so cute and irresistible. Unfortunately, the pricing is resistible. Which explained I did bring any of this lovely toy back.

11. It's the beginning of Oktoberfest.

12. Cuckoo clock, another specialty from Dresden.

13. A monument of Martin Luther.

14. The full view of Frauenkirche (The Church of Our Lady). This picture didn't do it's justice. The church is magnificent. We even went and have a service session there on Sunday.

15. Statue of Frederick Augustus II of Saxony. Frederick Augustus II (full name: Frederick Augustus Albert Maria Clemens Joseph Vincenz Aloys Nepomuk Johann Baptista Nikolaus Raphael Peter Xavier Franz de Paula Venantius Felix) (18 May 1797 – 9 August 1854) was King of Saxony and a member of the House of Wettin.

From Facebook:

Mini-Octoberfest @ Dresden

After checking in our hotel and throw the heavy luggage behind us, we zoomed out and started to explore Dresden City. First stop, the mini oktoberfest at the tourist information center.

Then I saw these two pretty ladies with traditional costume. Must take photo with them. Yay!!

City Herberge Hotel @ Dresden

After we got the map of Dresden City and Tram map, we went ahead to our hotel straight away to deposit our luggage.

This is the tram stop nearest to our hotel, Pirnascher Platz.

After dropping from this tram stop, we need to walk for 7 full minutes before reaching our hotel.

All I can said is that by the time I reached the hotel, I'm super tired and my hands are sore from tugging the luggage with us all the way from train station HPF to information center to the hotel.

It's super cold that day at Dresden. I even zip my coat from bottom up to my neck.
