Mount Santubong Climbing Experience

When I browse through my friend's blog, available at Friends and Family column on your right, I am so jealous when i saw chubby mike going to Bangkok and that ah moi Joseph actually got the chance to go to Hong Kong!! Where as for me the furthest trip that i had ever had in my life is only Singapore which is only happening this year. *_* Then i search through franticly for any special places that i had been and ... this, is what i can find.

The location:- Mount Santubong located in Kuching, my hometown, which can be reached in 1 hour plus of car ride. Lol... Aww... I make myself sound so small but nevertheless, i feel proud of myself for being able to make it to the top. ^_^

hmm.. can't really remember when is the trip, but it's on a nice Saturday morning. Our gang (7 persons) gathered together then went to Santubong in two cars, reaching Santubong around 9.45am in the morning. Without any delay we start climbing the mountain. I never really knew that climbing in 45 degree vertically can demand so much of my physical strength. But since it's only within one hour of the climb, i don't really dare to complain too much, but nevertheless after one hour of climbing, i start to voice out that i will never be able to make it to the top of the mountain.
Pit #1

There is 3 pits along the climb for ppl to take a rest. When reaching Pit #1, i am super happy. And i told my mountain climbing mate that i will stay at this pit and wait for them to climb up to the top and down again. Haha.. I was really out of breath when i reach Pit #1. But i never knew all of my friends are so enthusiastic. They actually motivate me to move up to at least reach Pit #2. Ellee even gave me his red bull drink so that i might have the energy to climb up the rest of the mountain. =P

Since all my friend ask me to continue, so i just continue the second part of my climbing. The second part is much much more interesting. There's rope tied around the trees for us to use it in our climbing. The second part is much much more easier than the first part, mainly because there's rope to assist me. So, when they told me that the third part to reach the top is only 30 min from Pit #2, I decide to climb up to the top. The third part of the mountain climbing involves ladder that is one storey to two storey high. Wakau.. when i climb, i can feel my legs shaking a bit, but not as much as when i climb down from the mountain top.

Saw the blue rope besides us? That's the rope we used to pull ourselves up the mountain.
See it? I am at Pit #2 now. Only 45 min to go to the top of the mountain.

It took us 7.5 hours for the whole trip, 3.5 hours up and 4 hours down. By the time we reach our cars, my legs are sore and basically can't move anymore. Although tiring, but i still feel proud that i was able to climb to the top (even though I am label as "Z bottleneck" as I am the one that lagging behind due to my lack of physical fitness)

Finally reaching the mountain top. Superb!

Taking group photo as a souvenir that we really reached the top of Mount Santubong. Next target:- Mount Kinabalu.
